TEXAS! The name is as diverse as the state and its’ people. Our beautiful state has many faces. From the irrigated plains of the Panhandle, the piney woods of East Texas, the salty air and marshland of the Gulf Coast, the farmlands and citrus orchards of the Rio Grande Valley, the oil fields of West Texas are all areas that border our awesome and beautiful Texas Hill Country.

Right in the middle of the state is our centrally located county of San Saba. We are about two hours in any direction from a major city. San Saba is the county seat with a beautiful domed courthouse that was built over 100 years ago. The inscription reads, “From the People, To the People”. Our courthouse square is the place for many year round activities. Our Historical Society is very busy with a wonderful restoration of the “Old Burden Hotel” and its’ surrounding courtyard. This is a great “work in progress” with many people offering their talents, labor of love and money to see it completed. We are very fortunate to have the blessings of the flowing springs that have created our lovely Mill Pond Park, truly a sight to see and enjoy. Our pioneers found the perfect place with trees, grass and lots of water in which to make their homes and build their futures. Agriculture has been the driving force of development for our county. Horses have been major necessities needed to work the many cattle ranches. As a result, the cowboy brought the rodeo into existence. We have many professional horse people and their children who live and work here.

Two rivers, the Colorado and the San Saba help create the wonderful camping and fishing that draw many to our area. Year round hunting is available which includes the Whitetail deer seasons of rifle, bow and black powder, dove and quail hunting, and several different seasons of turkey hunting. Wild hogs are plentiful and may be hunted any time of the year. Many people have fallen in love with the rural life of San Saba County and have purchased land for recreation and ranching.
